Housekeeping book (1846)
A digitised manuscript 'Setting Up House', the housekeeping book begun by the newly married Caroline May Roberts to record the purchases she made to set up her own house. It was also used as a receipt book to record payments to her servants.
Description
Recipe book (1874)
A digitised recipe book, the 'Ravenswood Recipe Book', begun in 1871, inscribed with the name Caroline Amy Georgiana Roberts, of Ravenswood, Brisbane, with the date 25th April 1871.
Amy, as she was called in the family to distinguish her from her mother, was the third surviving child of Caroline May Roberts (nee Cooper) and Daniel Foley Roberts, solicitor and politician. It is by no means a complete or even balanced collection of recipes with which to run a household. The book has no index, none of the recipes are dated, so the time range of recording is unclear. Perhaps it was more for recording family traditions.
