Scope and content

The collection consists primarily of letters written to Helen Blackshaw (nee Rigby) by Bert Corrin between 1927 and 1985. In 1927 Helen Rigby sailed to Auckland, New Zealand to be married to Arthur 'Lloyd' Blackshaw. On the same boat was Herbert 'Bert' Corrin, both were from Yorkshire and they became lifelong friends. Bert disembarked in Adelaide and began a correspondence which lasted for 58 years, always ending his letters 'As always, Bert'. The letters chronicle Bert's life as an itinerant worker in various parts of Australia including north and western Queensland and New Zealand.
