The Solomos Society was founded in 1981 by George Pippos, then President of the Greek Orthodox Community of St George, Brisbane, and Dr Constantine Castan, then senior lecturer in the English Department of the University of Queensland. It is open to all Greeks and to non-Greeks who are interested in Greek culture. Each year the Solomos Society gives eight lectures in English about aspects of Greek culture and has encouraged the development of the oral history of Greeks in Brisbane through annual panel discussions.
