Collection of papers, photographs and maps relating to Ray Ison. The collection consists of material relating to Mr. Ison's involvement with the Duke of Edinburgh's Award in Australia, and material relating to his environmental planning and consultancy work.
Raymond L. (Ray) Ison (born ca. 1952) is an Australian environmental scientist. After attending the Bathurst High School in New South Wales from 1965 to 1970, Ison received his BSc in Agricultural Science from the University of Sydney in 1974, and his PhD in Plant Ecophysiology from the University of Queensland in 1981. Ison started his academic career as Lecturer at the University of Western Sydney in 1982. In 1986 he moved to the University of Sydney, where he was appointed Senior Lecturer in the School of Crop Sciences. In 1994 he was appointed Professor of Systems at the Open University, where he contributed to the "Masters in Systems Thinking in Practice" program. Since 2008 he is also at the Monash University in its Monash Sustainability Institute. In 1981 he established Ray Ison & Associates in Brisbane, later to become Ison Environmental Planners, an environmental and agricultural consultancy firm.
