Collection of photographs and postcards relating to John (Jack) Geddes, who served in the First World War. The photographs were taken during his time serving with the 2nd Light Horse Regiment, and 1st Machine Gun Squadron, in the Middle East during the First World War. The postcards principally depict scenes from Java and Sumatra, however one shows the city of Perrone, France, before it was destroyed in 1917.
John (Jack) Geddes arrived in Brisbane from Scotland, with his parents and 5 siblings in 1911. The family settled in Toowoomba, his father worked as a bakery manager. In 1915 John aged just 19 followed his father George, age 41 and enlisted in the AIF to serve overseas in the First World War. Trooper Jack Geddes served in the Middle East with the 2nd Light Horse Regiment, and later the 1st Machine Gun Squadron, returning to Australia in May 1919. Warrant Officer George Geddes served with 17th Company, Australian Army Services Corps, and the 2nd Divisional Train, he returned to Australia in March 1918. The Geddes family later became the proprietors of Moreton Bakeries, Wynnum.
