Series number
11
Series title
Military uniform
Date
1914-1919
Scope and content

This series contains the military cap of the Black Watch Infantry Battalion of the Royal Regiment of Scotland.  The cap was presumably given to Morris Hawkins by his friend, Scottish soldier, Walter 'Jock' Kennedy, who was held as a prisoner of war with Hawkins during the First World War.  Kennedy emigrated to Queensland in 1923 and spent his life working as a station hand on Medway Station, Bogantungan, Queensland. He died in 1963 at the age of 67.

The cap includes the cap badge of the battalion. The note with the cap was written by Morris Hawkins' eldest son, John Hawkins.
