Caldwell Family papers and photographs

Sketchbook with "Drawn by Margaret Irene Caldwell, aged 15 years" written on cover. It contains a series of drawings and caricatures, on various subjects.

Newspaper clippings topics include World War I, weddings, death notices, churches and clergy. Also loose material inserted in back of notebook, including newspaper clippings, letters, cards, certificates.

Clippings book, belonging to Kathleen Caldwell, consisting of newspaper clippings, magazine clippings and some correspondence. Includes loose inserts. A wide variety of topics are covered.

Autograph book belonging to Margaret Irene Caldwell, containing photos, pictures, clippings, correspondence, and drawings. Included is a loose photograph of Reverend George R Hunt; members guide for The Girls Friendly Society. 

Newspaper clipping, mounted on board, from "The Morning Post", Melbourne, Wednesday, June 26, 1929 - "The Science and Art of Bringing Up Baby". The clipping is a large format photograph with caption, and includes handwritten names identifying subjects in the photograph.

This album contains mainly family photos, at the family home at 'Ashley' Riverview Terrace, Indooroopilly, and on travels, and photographs of various Brisbane locations (especially Indooroopilly), and also includes photographs from the visit of Edward, Prince of Wales to Australia in 1920. Many photographs have captions.

Photographs taken during war-time include servicemen known to the Caldwell family: Richard Keen, members of the Homer family; troops at the Drayton railway station; volunteers at the Red Cross kitchen, Brisbane; Stanley McDonald; and interiors of the Queensland Artificial Limb Factory, Rosemount Military Hospital.

This album is inscribed inside the front cover 'J Caldwell 'Ashley' Indooroopilly Brisbane 10-2-13'. Presumably 'J Caldwell' is John Dodimeade Caldwell, 1859-1933 father to Margaret and Kathleen. It contains family photos, travel photos, and some war-time photos. Servicemen identified include: Alfred Charles Homer; Norman Francis McWaters; members of 1 AGH, 1914; Enoggera training camp.

This album is inscribed inside front cover 'M.K. Caldwell, Indooroopilly, 1911' and 'These photographs were taken by the owner during 1910-1912, M.K. Caldwell'. It contains family photos, photographs of Brisbane, Toowoomba, Redcliffe, various ships and the family home, 'Ashley'. Many photographs have captions.

This photograph album most likely relates to Myee 'Kathleen' Caldwell, a nurse, who qualified in obstetrics and gynaecology at Womens Hospital Melbourne, held several positions in Victoria, NSW and Queensland before accepting the position of matron at St Helen's Private Hospital, South Brisbane.

During the Second World War Kathleen Caldwell was granted two-and-a-half years' leave of absence to become principal Matron of Northern Command she later retired in 1954.

Original and copy of photograph of residence located at 10-12 Westminster Road, Indooroopilly,  constructed in the 1890s as the home of Louis Stamm, and at one time occupied by Doctor Hawkes. The building is thought to have been designed by local architect, Richard Gailey. Written on back of original "My favourite house as a child. Dr. Hawkes - Hendon - Indooroopilly. (Negative no. 188150)

This image is a group portrait of men of the 6th Reinforcements for the 47th Australian Infantry Battalion, AIF who embarked from Brisbane, Queensland on board HMAT A74 Marathon on 27 October 1916.

Hand tinted portrait photograph, large format, subject unknown (baby), written on front "Caldwell/Nth Sydney", handwritten on back "First picture I took at Read Studio - Nth. Sydney - & coloured" Margaret Caldwell is described as a photographer in the census records post Second World War.

Mounted group portrait of men of 1 Australian General Hospital, who embarked from Brisbane on board Transport A55 Kyarra on 21 November 1914.

The mount has been autographed. Identified are: standing: Mervyn Henry Archdall #52; Claude William Mackie #50; George James Priddle #49; sitting: Samuel Paton; Ernest Charles Juliam #48; William Leslie Dowd #12; Donald Moir Sisley #51; in front: Albert Edward Cunnington #65; Charles Norman Boddington #19.

Panorama photograph of a men's lacrosse game. The grass playing field is located in East Brisbane, the front hoarding for Watson & Son Family Butcher (91 Wellington Road) can be seen in the background. Handwritten on back "Don Sisley & Mahoney's". Donald Sisley was a friend of the Cardwell family, and served with 5th Field Ambulance during the First World War.

Included are images of John Caldwell with his wooden boat; the Kenmore War Memorial; views of the Brisbane River from Indooroopilly; early model VH-BAC Anson aircraft; and the Cardwell sisters bathing in the sea.
