The items relate to the life and career of Ivy May Hassard, a pioneering pilot and fashion designer who lived on the Gold Coast.

Administrative / Biographical history

Ivy May Hassard 1914-1998 (nee Pearce) was born in Ipswich and attended school in Dalby and Brisbane and took her first flying lessons at Archerfield Airport age 16. When she qualified in 1935, age 20 she was claimed as Queensland's youngest female pilot, her first official passenger being the Archbishop of Brisbane, James Duhig.
