Photographs, some studio portraits, of David Lahey and his wife Jane Jemima (nee Walmsley).
David Lahey was born in 1858 in County Westmeath, Ireland to Francis and Alicia Lahey. He and his parents, along with 10 siblings, arrived in Australia in 1862. David married Victorian-born Jane Walmsley in 1881 in Brisbane.
They had twelve children, one of whom did not survive infancy. Their surviving children were: Frances 'Vida', Percival Ethelbert, Bertram Taylor, Romeo Watkins, Oswald, Eric 'Huck' Reginald, Noel Alaric, Gladys 'Esme', John 'Jack' Rowland Alwyn, Mavis Alicia Elizabeth, and Jayne Aveline Juliette.

Jane Lahey / Nicklin (1870-1960)
Photographs, some studio portraits of Jane Lahey, sister to David Lahey, who married Reuben Nicklin, with her family.
Reuben Nicklin (1841-1890), and wife Jane (Lahey) Nicklin, were the paternal grandparents of future Premier of Queensland Sir George Francis Reuben Nicklin. Both died when RMS Quetta [ship] foundered off Thursday Island in February 1890. Jane Nicklin was the daughter of Francis Lahey, her brothers formed Lahey's Canungra Sawmill. The Nicklin family home "Hatherton" became the Queen Alexandra Home for Children, in Coorparoo. Their children were: George Francis Nicklin, Alice Elizabeth (Nicklin) Horsley and William Lahey Nicklin. Alice Elizabeth was one of the few female survivors.

Lahey family businesses (1880-2000)
Folder of papers relating to the Lahey family's association with Canungra, the sawmill and logging tramway, which was in operation from 1884. The Lahey brothers built a private tramway from the mill to the Coomera Valley to harvest stands of hoop pine, and constructed a tunnel through the range to accommodate the locomotive. It ceased operation and the line was dug up in 1935. The papers include a number of manuscripts by Romeo and Shirley Lahey, newsletters, invitations, correspondence and photographs.

Jane Nicklin nee Lahey (1880-2010)
Folder of papers relating to Jane Lahey, her husband Reuben Nicklin and their children: George Francis, Alice Elizabeth Horsley and William Lahey. Jane and Reuben Nicklin with their daughter Alice were aboard RMS Quetta when it sunk in 1890, Alice was one of only 2 females to survive. Their grandson, Sir George Francis Reuben (Frank) Nicklin KCMG MM was to serve as Premier of Queensland, from 1957-1968.
The papers include newspaper clippings, booklets, several manuscripts, significant original correspondence, including a letter from Reuben Nicklin to his son George, from onboard RMS Quetta, written two days before the ship foundered.

Bound volume of copies of letters written and received by various members of the Lahey family living in Europe. The letters were copied from the originals held by the Strong family of County Cavan in 1979.
They include letters written to Alicia from her family after her return to Ireland, in 1873; letters to her brother John; as well as letters written to Vida Lahey while she was living in England during the First World War.
Many of the items prior to 1919 are held as originals in this collection. Other items 1919-1921 are from Percy, Vida, Margaret, Jane, Eva and Esme Lahey.
