Collection
An archive of original negatives, colour transparencies, photographic prints and scrapbooks documenting the work of leading Brisbane photographer Ian Poole from 1972 to 1994. During this period, Ian worked as a leading commercial, architectural, advertising, and fashion photographer in Brisbane. The main portion of the archive consists of some 100,000 negatives, the majority comprising black and white negative stock. There also is a collection of scrapbooks, press cuttings, colour transparencies, black and white prints and printed advertising material illustrating Ian's work. Images include architectural and house interiors, images created in connection with advertising campaigns, fashions from stores such Cassell's, Bayard's and Bobo Boutique, and cultural and promotional events. The latter including images of cinema openings and car and boat shows. There are photographs of the Warana Festival and images of notable personalities including Governor Sir Colin Hannah, Ainsley Gotto, model Margo Mott, entrepreneur Jan Power and journalist Ken Lord. A Negative Index Book provided by Ian Poole, accompanies the archive.
Ian Poole was born in 1945 and died in 2018. In his career he worked for some of the most prominent names in advertising including Leo Burnett, the Lucas Agency, and Garnsey Clemenger.
