Administrative / Biographical history
The Loyal Orange Institution is a protestant fraternal society, based primarily in Northern Ireland, which emphasises religious tolerance and freedom of expression. The institution has existed in Australia since 1835. The Loyal Orange Institution commenced in Queensland in 1865, with the Grand Lodge being constituted in 1867. Initially the institution was called "The Loyal Protestant Association of Queensland". The name was changed to "The Loyal Orange Institution of Queensland" on January 30th 1873 and is still in existence.
