Scope and content

An extensive collection of correspondence maintained by the Foot family which provides the first-hand accounts of the Foot brothers, who served during the First World War. Included are numerous letters written by George Foot to his future wife Eileen Marshall from Egypt and Cardington Station, north Queensland.

Administrative / Biographical history

Eric Douglas Foot, married Hilda Smith in 1915, they had a son in 1916 who was named after his brother, the late Henry Daintree Foot who died at Gallipoli. In 1917 Eric enlisted and served with the 4th Australian Pioneer Battalion as a signaller in England and France, returning home in September 1919.
