Scope and content

Archive of the creative work of Damien Ledwich. The collection includes original cartoons, comic strips, sketches, illustrations, collages, poster art and design work as well as posters, ephemera and publications featuring Damien's work. The collection also includes an extensive amount of material relating to his animation work including film and video, papers relating to the production of his films, animation pencil tests and hand-painted animation cells. There is also some correspondence, photographs and realia in the collection.

11 videotapes, 18 film reels, 67 posters, 37 architectural plans and 19 boxes of papers, illustrations, photographs, negatives and realia.
Administrative / Biographical history

Damien Ledwich (1955-2017) was a Brisbane based cartoonist, illustrator, animator and graphic designer. He graduated from University of Queensland in 1976 with a Bachelor of Design Studies. In the late 1970s he became part of the editorial team of UQ magazine Semper Floreat and was later heavily involved in Cane Toad Times. Throughout the 1980s he was a central figure in Brisbane's indie media, activism and arts and culture scenes working with The Activities Centre, 4ZZZ Radio Collective, ZIP Collective and many other groups. Damien was one of the founders of design company Toadshow Pty Ltd in 1986 and was lead designer on many of Toadshow's major projects and all of their theatre productions. He was a talented animator and made a number of short animated films. His film Feral Television won the Yoram Gross Animation Award for best Australian animated short film in 1991.
