Celebrations included a “Tree of Knowledge” tree planting ceremony at the Australian Workers Heritage Centre and a march.  

The original “Tree of Knowledge” was the meeting place for the shearers during the Great Shearers Strike of 1891 an event which led to the formation of the Australian Labor Party.  An offspring of the tree was cultivated by the Department of Primary Industries and Fisheries and was planted during the ceremony on 2 May 2005.

During the celebrations Milton Dick and Pat Ogden delivered speeches.  Rob Chandler, Chris Cummins, Joe Ludwig, Henry Palaszczuk, Pat Purcell and Garry Ryan were also present.

Photographs then document the Barcaldine Labour Day March featuring Australian Labor Party (ALP) and Australian Workers Union (AWU) supporters and a fire truck representing the Australian Workers Heritage Centre and fire services.
