Administrative / Biographical history

Thomas Alfred Gardiner bought Mooning Station in 1927 and had 5 children Len, Bill, Jack, Mary and Ron Gardiner. He then purchased neighbouring properties for his sons - Bodalla Station for Bill Gardiner, Garrawin Station for Len Gardiner and Gumahah Station for Jack Gardiner. Gumahah is a 26,000 hectare sheep and cattle property about 80 kilometres south west of Cunnamulla. John Thomas Gardiner ("Jack" Gardiner) married Margaret Bromhead and lived on Gumahah Station with their 5 children Peter, Rosemary, Michael (Mike), Ruth and Richard (Rick). During many of these years Bert Penrose was the gardener and Harry Crouch the overseer. Barbara Parkinson was the governess for some of these years. Challendon Station was owned by Jack and Margaret Gardiner bought ca. late 1960s - early 1970s. The Gumahah children were educated via correspondence before attending boarding school in Sydney at various ages. Peter attended All Hallows primary school in Bathurst where his maternal grandparents, William and Ada Bromhead, lived. Jack's brother Ron married Helen Bromhead (Margaret's sister) and lived on Mooning Station with their seven children, many of them seen in this footage. Bill Gardiner married Tot and lived on Bodalla Station, with their son Ross. Len Gardiner married Marie Phillot and lived on Garrawin Station, with their 3 children. Mary Gardiner married Jack Lucas and lived at Cliffdale Station with their 5 children. Gumahah and Garrawin Stations were purchased by the Danish pension fund Pensionskassernes Administration in 2013.
