Administrative / Biographical history

The Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) was a private art museum run by James Baker from 1987 to 1990 at 164 Melbourne St, South Brisbane and from 1991 to 1994 at 8 Petrie Terrace. While the Museum had its own collection, exhibitions were curated regularly from works from other sources. Works from the collection were also lent to other institutions for exhibition. At the time, MOCA was a rare exhibitor of avant-garde art in Brisbane, and so was influential in making such works available to the Brisbane art community.
