Queensland Colonial and Heritage Dance collection
Collection
Includes photographs, videos, programs and other material from the Queensland Colonial and Heritage Dancers (QCHD), including colonial ball booklets, dance cards and posters. The material reveals the nature of the annual QCHD colonial balls, and reflects the Dancers' involvement in the George Street Colonial Festivals and Expo 88 Folkloric Concerts, and connections with Norwegian, Finnish and Danish Groups, and the Queensland Folkloric Dance Association.
Since 1999, at the 'Fourteenth Annual Colonial and Heritage Ball' in Brisbane, the Dancers have included the 'Brisbane Quadrille' and the 'Ballroom Lancers' - dances found in a Dance Manual published in 1884 and interpreted by the group. The 'Rockhampton Alberts' and the 'Pine Mountain Lancers' have also been revived. In 2005 the QCHD celebrated its 20th Ball, and in 2006 hosted the Colonial and Heritage Ball at the National Folk Festival in Caberra.
