Administrative / Biographical history

Robert Percival Froud was born in 1920 in Gravesend, England. His family migrated to Australian in 1927. Froud commenced his architectural training in 1936 in Brisbane, working for George Campbell Wilson and later Mervyn H. Rylance. He studied at the Central Technical College and the University of Queensland, where he studied under Karl Langer. After graduating in 1946 he worked at the Brisbane City Council, the Department of Labour and National Service and the architectural firm Fulton, Job and Collin. In 1954 he and Aubrey Job established Job & Froud Architects (1954-1974). They completed many residential housing projects as well as the acclaimed Torbreck (1957) high rise apartment building. After Job's retirement, Froud continued to work under his own name until 1986. He died in Brisbane in 2001.
