Series 1: Films (1954-1959)
A collection of 8mm home movies created by Thorvald Erikson Sr and family members depicting daily life at 37 Curd St, Greenslopes; holidays to Coolangatta; and swimming competitions at the Davies Park Pool. There is also footage of the Roma Street Markets, where Thorvald Sr ran his fruit and vegetable business. Some of the films depict the activities of the Leander Swimming Club of which Thorvald Erikson Jr was a member. The club met every Thursday night the Valley pool, but on Saturdays mornings trained at the Davies Park pool. One film depicts the swimming club travelling to Mount Isa for the 1957 North Queensland Swimming Championships.
