Administrative / Biographical history

According to the Association's website (http://www.qcwa.org.au/aboutus.htm), their role has been "to improve education, health and welfare for, and to enrich the lives of women and children and hence the family, particularly in the isolated areas of Queensland." Each year the Association holds various fund-raising activities, such as the State Cookery Contest which began to be held in 1959, and the Knitting and Crochet competition which began in 1969. Money raised through the fundraising activities of the Association is used for such purposes as awarding bursaries to primary, secondary and tertiary students; setting up tea- or rest-rooms in hospitals; and debt-reduction on, or refurbishment of, QCWA properties.
