Administrative / Biographical history

Metro Arts is an independent arts centre centred in Brisbane for over 40 years. For most of those years Metro Arts inhabited 109 Edward Street, a six-story building built in 1889, which had served as warehouse for household goods, biscuits, hats, supplies during World War II, later as government offices and then finally as the Brisbane Community Arts Centre. Championing all contemporary art forms, the core activities of Metro Arts involve developing, experimenting and presenting ambitious and boundary-pushing contemporary arts. In addition to its artistic program Metro Arts has also supported the wider artistic community with low cost short and long term venue hire for creative businesses, photo shoots, rehearsals, exhibitions, performances, auditions, forums and celebrations. In 2020, Metro Arts moved location to a new home at West Village, West End.
