Scope and content

Digital photographs, a map, a document titled 'Daintree River Flooding' and oral history recordings documenting the Daintree River flood of 2019. On Australia Day, 26 January 2019, a monsoon trough brought continuous heavy rain to the Daintree River area. The river flooded, then receded after breaking a 118-year floodwater record, leaving some Far North Queensland residents cut off. The flooding peaked at 12.6m close to midnight on Saturday, eclipsing the previous record of 12.4m in 1901 and higher than 10.5m at the last major flooding event in 2014.
