Herbert John Pardey,1875-1932 was born in Hackney, England in 1875 and died in Sydney, New South Wales in 1932. Herbert married Susan Crowell in 1900 and had two daughters. Pardey operated a photographic business in Pittsworth Queensland from 1907-1917. Being Pittsworth’s recordist of history, he photographed everything from weddings and portraits to community and social events, commercial work and local buildings. It is understood that he rented darkroom facilities from an amateur photographer named Lindenberg, whose family has been prominent in the Pittsworth business community for more than a century. Descendant Clive Lindenberg of Pittsworth, is a custodian of some important Pardey plates, many of which he has permitted to be digitised, with copies provided to State Library of Queensland. The Pittsworth Historical Association also holds some of Pardey's original glass plates with copies provided to State Library of Queensland via this collection.
