Administrative / Biographical history

Jan Jorgensen was born in Brisbane. Jan studied art at the Central Technical College before working as an artist on a Brisbane newspaper. She then freelanced before earning an Associate Diploma of Visual Art at the same college. Jan co-founded the Queensland Wildlife Artists Society and exhibited her art for ten years. Next Jan and husband Martin operated the Ardrossan Gallery at Bowen Hills in Brisbane from 1985-1990. In 1988, they purchased the future premises of the Riverhouse Galleries, an art deco house in Oxlade Drive, New Farm. After renovations they opened the Riverhouse Galleries in 1990 and operated that gallery at those premises until 2001.
