Abstract
The collection comprises: a letter by Edmund Kennedy written to Mrs Sarah Turner in 1845 while on an expedition to Port Essington; a manuscript journal by Kennedy about his 1847 expedition in western Queensland in which he named the Barcoo River, and a journal for the same expedition by his friend and fellow explorer Alfred Allatson Turner (the son of Sarah Turner). The collection also includes a collection of artefacts belonging to Kennedy which include several telescopes, a pocket watch, maps and sketches.

Custodial history
This archive which remained in the hands of seven generations of the family, was inherited by historian Edgar Beale from his great-great-grandmother Sarah Turner (née Allatson) and his great-grandfather Alfred Allatson Turner.
