Scope and content

Collection comprises material relating to the charity work undertaken by the Cerebral Palsy League of Queensland and its predecessor, the Queensland Spastic Welfare League. The majority of the collection relates to the Miss Australia and Miss Queensland pageants operated by the organisation, however it also contains material relating to other fundraising activities such as the Superwalk event, various appeals and theatre and sporting events. Some material relates specifically to the work with children funded by the organisation. The collection includes large portraits of pageant winners, photographs, ephemera, posters, scrapbooks, clippings, minutes, realia, film and video footage and costumes.

Administrative / Biographical history

Eleanor Schonell, who contributed greatly to the Cerebral Palsy charity (Spastic Welfare League), died on the 22 May 1962. She played a significant part in the formulation of Special Educational programmes for handicapped children.
