Scope and content

The collection includes a large number of black & white and colour photographs, including images of sculptures, watercolours and drawings by Len and Kath Shillam and images of the artists in their studio. Also includes exhibition catalogues, clippings and a number of small sculptures as well as papers relating to the Society of Sculptors Queensland.

Administrative / Biographical history

By the 1950's the Shillams were full-time sculptors, exhibiting jointly and with other artists. Both Len and Kath were awarded many important commissions including; "Enlightenment", Queensland State Public Library (1959), "Proclamation Figure", St Johns Cathedral Brisbane (1959), "Threshold", Canberra Technical College (1967), "Coat of Arms", Parliament House, Brisbane (1979), and "Pelicans", Queensland Cultural Centre (1985). The Shillams had multiple exhibitions at the Johnstone Gallery and the Queensland Art Gallery,
