Administrative / Biographical history
In 1947, Bennett sold out his first one-man exhibition of fifty oil paintings at the Sedon Galleries in Elizabeth Street, Melbourne. The 'Age' critic described Rubery as:"..a gifted and sensitive painter..who specialises in the depiction of Nature in her softest moods." He had a second sell-out exhibition at the Sedon Galleries in 1952. This exhibition included thirty of his Central Australian landscapes. In 1954 two paintings commissioned by QANTAS for Queen Elizabeth II were presented to her. A third, commissioned by the Governor of New South Wales, was also presented to the Queen.
