Administrative / Biographical history
The W. R. Black Home in Chelmer opened in 1928 as a home for girls run by the Presbyterian Church. Following the closure of Blackheath Home for boys in Oxley in May 1963, children of both sexes were admitted to W.R. Black Home. The home closed on 31 July 1965 and children were progressively transferred to new family group homes or to temporary foster homes. (Source: Find & Connect website, viewed 23/9/2023).
