Scope and content

Three cassette tapes documenting the the biennial performance of Canto General by members of the Brisbane Migrant English Centre (BMEC) on 4 Apr 1995, featuring: Maria Elena Ibaceta and Natacha Monardez, Marcial Parada, Sue Monk and Lachlan Hurse. Canto General is a book of poems written by Chilean poet Pablo Neruda (1904-1973) and was published in 1950. Canto General consists of 15 sections and 231 poems and attempts to be a history of the entire American Western Hemisphere, or New World, from a Hispanic American perspective. The Canto General has been set to music by several musicians.
