Administrative / Biographical history

The Queensland Women's Electoral League was co-founded by Margaret Ogg and Christina Corrie (wife of Brisbane mayor Leslie Corrie) in 1903. Although one of its stated aims was "to advance political knowledge among women", and it was supposed to be non-partisan, it was in fact a liberal-conservative organisation, with funding provided by the Queensland National Defence League, guidance provided by two Liberal members of the Legislative Assembly, and another of its stated aims being "to encourage and preserve 'private enterprise' and to combat unnecessary interference by the state with the individual".
