Abstract
Papers of Augustus Charles Gregory, first Surveyor-General of Queensland.
Scope and content
Bowen's letters to Gregory include one dated 20 July 1860 in which the Governor firmly states his preference for the naming of the township of Mackay. Another undated letter records Bowen's wish that a street 'by the Reservoir" in Brisbane be named "Roma" after his wife, the former Countess Diamantina Roma.

Augustus Charles Gregory was an explorer. He was appointed first Surveyor-General for Queensland, a post which he held from 1859 until 1879. He was a member of the Legislative Council from 10 November 1882 to 25 June 1905.
