Scope and content

This collection of photocopied papers has been bound in two volumes and includes: reminiscences, letters and field notes compiled by Ernest Henry concerning his exploring trips and mining ventures. Frequent mention is made of his contacts with Aboriginal people. Also included are: copies of the biography of Henry, 'The prospector of Argylla', by Sidney Evan Pearson; information compiled by Pearson on the Kalkadoons; biographical notes on Arthur Douglas Henry and Edward Campbell Earl; newspaper clippings on Ernest Henry and information on the death of Inspector Beresford.

Administrative / Biographical history

Ernest Henry emigrated to Australia in 1857. After working in the Riverina and the Darling Downs he took up Baroondah Station near Roma, and later Mt McConnell Station. He explored the areas around Cloncurry and the Flinders River and discovered large copper deposits at Cloncurry, including the Mount Oxide mine.
