Scope and content

The collection consists of letters addressed to the Bulloo Divisional Board and to Mr G. A. Lewis, Engineer for the Bulloo Shire Council. Also included are some telegrams which relate primarily to the installation and maintenance of equipment for the production of electricity in Thargomindah. The letters are signed by Edward Barton and William M. L'Estrange.

Administrative / Biographical history

Brisbane Electric Supply Company Limited was registered under The Companies Act of 1863 on 2 September 1896, taking over the business of E. Barton. The purpose of the company was to generate, distribute and supply electricity and it acquired the right to supply electricity to part of the inner city of Brisbane, and later a larger area, under the Electric Light and Power Act of 1896. In 1904, the company was terminated and registered under a new company name, the City Electric Light Company Limited.
