This collection consists of letters, cards and ephemera, principally relating to Sergeant Gordon Gibson who served with the RAAF during the Second World War as a maintenance technician for cineama equipment.

Administrative / Biographical history

Gordon George Gibson was born in Charters Towers on 25 October 1913 to George and Ethel Gibson and later lived in Edmonton, north Queensland. Here his father was the station master, and he worked as a cinema projectionist from 1939 to 1941. Gibson served in the Royal Australian Airforce 1942 to 1946, as a cinematographer and technician who maintained cinema equipment in the North East Area which included Horn Island, Port Moresby, Milne Bay and Maruake. He later worked as a freelance photographer and cameraman with Cinesound Review Newsreel and worked for Kingcroft Productions (documentary makers). In 1956 he was appointed Queensland representative for Cinesound Review Theatrical Newsreel and Cinesound T.C.N. Daily Television Newsreel.
