This significant collection of correspondence and papers relates to the career of Sir Thomas McIlwraith KCMG. The majority of the correspondence is related to politics but a number of personal and financial matters are mentioned. There are also financial records of Beaufort Station. Some of the more significant subjects mentioned are the proposed appointment of Sir Henry Blake as Governor of Queensland, the proposed transcontinental railway, the attempted annexation of New Guinea in 1883, investment possibilities, etc.
