Each stem is heated in a fire and hand straightened using a fork in a tree. The end of the stem is then hollowed out and four wire prongs are placed in position. Araldite is then added to hold the prongs in place and grass tree resin is heated over a fire and moulded around the end of the spear. The whole process takes an average of two weeks to complete.
