Royal Australian Air Force observer’s air gunner’s and W/T operator’s flying logbook, in the name of Lloyd George Jones. 

This log book contains detailed records of all flights undertaken, proficiency assessments, units at which served and aircraft in which flown - by Lloyd George Jones, between December 1942 and November 1945.

The papers in this series include:

• Humorous Christmas greeting card from Arnold Jones QX4218 who was serving with the 5th Australian Field Survey Company, to his brother George Jones (RAAF) in 1943.
• Letter from George Jones to his sister-in-law and niece Maureen & Edith Jones in Scotland. His brother John 'Jack' William Jones, also served in the RAAF in the UK. This letter was written on 5 November 1945  just days before George was killed as a result of an aircrash during bad weather at Tacloban, on the island of Leyte, in the Philippines.
• Letter from the sole survivor of the air crash, American ‘safe hand’ Harold J. McCabe of the 1st Light Infantry (US Army), to Arnold W. Jones. McCabe who was rescued from the water 5 hours after the crash, offered to answer any questions they might have about the event. 
• Letter from Ernest Henry Rawson of Perth, who lost his own son Warrant Officer Haydn Selby Rawson in the same air crash, written in reply to Arnold W. Jones (Lloyd George’s father).

Newspaper clippings relating to the air crash, the request for an enquiry and in memoriam messages.

Miniature travel chess set which belonged to Warrant Officer Lloyd George Jones. Manufactured in New York in the 1940s by Metro Bookgames, the set includes a draw containing wooden peg chess pieces; it includes a pamphlet of instruction.
