Private Glanville Henry George Rolls (1889-1916) was a born at Kingsborough, Queensland. He worked as a miner in the Cairns region before he enlisted as a member of 9th Infantry Battalion, aged 26 years at Rockhampton. He embarked from Brisbane on board HMAT 'Seang Bee' on 21 October 1915 and during the voyage wrote the poem "Australia as a Nation". Rolls was transferred to 49th Infantry Battalion, and died aged 27 on the 5 September 1916, during the Battle of the Somme, having last been seen in No Man's Land before action at Mouquet Farm.
