Series 1: Correspondence (1915)
This series of letters reveals the story of William 'Bill' Ingam from when he enlists with the First AIF in April 1915 and follows him on board SS Shropshire with the 9th Infantry Battalion, his arrival in Egypt, and his departure for the Dardanelles and Mudros Island.

Series 2: Correspondence (1916)
This series of letters continue the story of William 'Bill' Ingham with the 9th and later 49th Infantry Battalions and the enlistment of his younger brother Benjamin 'Ben' in September 1915 who sailed for the Middle East with the 15th Infantry Battalion, having just turned 18 the previous July. Ben was transferred to the 47th Infantry Battalion and both soldiers proceeded with their units to France.
The brothers unsuccessfuly requested to be assigned to the same Battalion but they served close by to each other. In August 1916 Ben was severely effected by neurasthenia as a result of high-explosive shelling and is evacuated to hospital. After convalescing he is considered unfit for active service and is to be returned home to Australia.

Series 3: Correspondence (1917)
This series of letters tell of the return of Benjamin Ingham home to Australia after becoming seriously ill; and the fate of his older brother William 'Bill' Ingham who died of shrapnel wounds 1 February 1917 and buried at Dernancourt. Included are many items of condolence.

Diary of Sergeant William 'Bill' John Ingham, 49th Infantry Battalion, detailing his service from the time of his enlistment in 1915, training in Egypt, and life in the trenches France, the last entry is for 27 January 1917. William Ingham died of wounds, 1 February 1917 at Dernancourt.
