The collection reflects the history of Wayne Swan's time in public office and in particular is a record of his experience as: Secretary of the Queensland Labor Party (1991-1993) Federal MP and Member for the seat of Lilley from 1993-1996, 1998-2019, Treasurer of Australia (2007-2013), Deputy Prime Minister and Deputy leader of the ALP (2010-13) and National President of the Australian Labor Party (2018- ) A substantial part of the collection relates to the Global Financial Crisis of 2008-9 and is highly significant given that Australia was a key contributor to G20 discussions. Australia is recognized for its implementation of a remarkably effective domestic stimulus response to the crisis. Wayne Swan was named World's Top Finance Minister of 2011 by Euromoney Magazine for his role in guiding Australia through the GFC without going into recession. The collection includes photographs, correspondence, campaign materials and political documents.

Born in 1954, Wayne Swan is an Australian politician. He was the Deputy Prime Minister of Australia and Deputy Leader of the Labor Party from 2010 to 2013 and the Treasurer of Australia from 2007 to 2013. Other key positions held during his political career include his roles as: Secretary of the Queensland Labor Party (1991-1993) Federal MP and Member for the seat of Lilley from 1993-1996 and 1998-2019 and National President of the Australian Labor Party (2018- ).
