The scrapbooks document Robert Boughen's activities primarily as an organist, conductor and teacher, Christina Boughen primarily as a pianist and Margaret Whyte primarily as a singer.

This includes details on various singers, musicians, conductors, choirs, orchestras and other musical groups including the: Westminster Glee Singers; Bell Chrome Company; Fisk Jubilee Singers; singers Marie Narelle, Antonia Dolores, Andrew Black, Gilbert Wilson, Adelina Patti, Clara Butt and Kennerley Rumford; Brisbane Musical Union; flutist John Lemmone; organist Edwin H. Lemare; and the Scarlet Troubadours. Also included are details of J.C. Williamson performances and performances in John N. McCallum's 'Town topics' series.

Performances were held at a variety of locations including Her Majesty's Theatre, Exhibition Concert Hall, Centennial Hall, Albert Hall and the Cremorne Theatre as well as a number of venues in Taringa.

There is also a range of miscellaneous material including:

  • cards and dance programs (front covers only).
  • clippings containing pictures of various organs.
  • blank invitation cards and blank score cards for the card games progressive whist and progressive bridge.

Robert Boughen's Masters project was titled 'A catalogue of organ music by Australian composers'. Following the completion of his Masters in 1975 Robert Boughen began a research project seeking information to update the catalogue created during his Masters and to enlarge its scope to contain recordings of Australian organ music, Australian organists and organs in Australia.

Material related to the research project includes:

The photograph album contains well wishes and photographs of an informal 'cuppa' after Evening Song at St. John's Cathedral on 16 July 1995. The 'cuppa' involved a presentation to Robert Boughen in celebration of him being awarded the Lambeth Doctorate of Church Music.

Robert Boughen was awarded the Lambeth Doctorate of Church Music in 1995. Robert travelled to the U.K.to receive the award conferred by the Archbishop of Canterbury. Robert Boughen was Organist and Master of Choristers of St. John's Cathedral from 1960 until his retirement in 2004.

The scrapbook was probably compiled by a serving member of St. John's Cathedral.

Christine and Robert Boughen were members of the Brisbane City Council (B.C.C.) Music and Performing Arts Advisory Committee (B.M.M.A.C.) or the City of Brisbane Music Advisory Committee from 1954-1994 onwards and 1962-1994 onwards respectively [from history volume from this series and inferred material in first item in this series]. 'Operation Flying Fingers' aimed to improve the skills of pianists and organists in country Queensland. Lessons were provided by Robert Boughen to musicians in Chinchilla, Roma, Charleville, Cunnamulla and St. George. The project a supported by the Queensland Arts Council and the Community Arts Board of the Australia Council. The program ran in 1983. Robert Boughen flew himself by light plane to the various destinations.

Biographical history
The Robert Roughen Ensemble broadcasted regularly on A.B.C. Radio since 1958. The ensemble also featured on the ABQ-2 television 'Music we love' program for 3 weeks between 1963 and 1965. This was later extended to a 26 week program, every second week for a year. (Information taken from: unidentified newspaper clipping).

Biographical history
Percy Brier (1885-1970) was educated both in Australia and overseas and upon returning to Brisbane was active as a recitalist and chamber music performer. Percy help leadership positions with the Musician’s Association of Queensland, Music Teacher’s (Musical) Association of Queensland and the Australian Music Examination’s Board where he worked for over 40 years, the Guild of Australian Composers and the Queensland Conservatorium of Music (Advisory Council). Biographical history
Colin Brumby (1933-2018) was born and educated in Melbourne, Victoria. He was organist at St. Oswald's Glen Iris briefly before travelling to Queensland where he taught in various schools. He studied overseas then returned to Queensland where he was employed at the University of Queensland until his retirement in 1998. He was musical director of the Queensland Opera Company 1968-1971.

Biographical history
Robert Dalley-Scarlett (1887-1959) was born and educated in Sydney. He was soon serving as organist in suburban churches, singing in choirs and conducting amateur choirs and orchestras. In 1912, he became organist and choral conductor at Christ Church Anglican Cathedral, Grafton. He served in the armed forces in World War I 1916-1917. He was organist at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Brisbane 1919-32. He also conducted the South Brisbane City Choir 1920-1925 and the University (of Queensland) Musical Society. Robert maintained a teaching practice until 1941, was a founding member of the Music Teachers' Association of Queensland (Musical Association) becoming president in 1935 and was an active member of the University of Queensland's Music Advisory Board 1924-37. He conducted at the Valley Methodist Church 1932-34 and at All Saints' Church 1934-41 but his main choir was the Brisbane Handel Society 1932-59. During 1941-55 Dalley-Scarlett was employed by the Australian Broadcasting Commission producing many broadcasts himself with the A.B.C. Brisbane Singers. Biographical history
Horace Percy Finnis (1883-1960) was born in Tasmania. He was organist of St Andrew's Church, Brighton, then choirmaster of St. John's Church, Toorak. He founded Australia's first branch of the School of English Church Music in 1933. He served as precentor organist of St. Peter's Cathedral from 1927 and 1936 respectively. He also taught music at Pulteney Grammar School.

The item is accompanied by a newspaper clipping attached to the score about a visit to Queensland by ex-King Peter Karadjordjevic of Yugoslavia and his family tree with the inscripion 'On October 5th 1960, ex-King Peter of Yugoslavia arrived in Brisbane - his great grandfather Alfred Duke of Edinburgh was a son of Queen Victoria - H.R.H. was a violin pupil of R.T. Jefferies.'

Richard Thomas Jefferies was born and educated in London. He moved to Queensland, Australia for his health. He founded the Brisbane Musical Union in 1872 and was organist of St. John’s Cathedral, All Saints Church (Wickham Terrace) and St. Mary’s Church (Kangaroo Point). (Information taken from: item).

Biographical history
William Lovelock (1899-1986) was born and studied in London. Following service in World War I he worked in London as performer and music teacher. He served again in World War 2 then returned to London moving to Brisbane, Australia about 1956. He was initially founding director of the Queensland Conservatorium of Music before becoming a music critic for the Courier Mail 1959-1981, an eisteddfod adjudicator and a music examiner for the Australian Music Examinations Board. Arthur Ernest Howard Nickson (1867-1964) was born in Victoria and was organist and choirmaster at St. Paul's Cathedral, Melbourne. He then studied overseas around 1895-1901 before returning to Melbourne where he played organ at the Holy Trinity Church, Balaclava, then St Peter's Church, East Melbourne in 1903; then St John's Church, Toorak in 1916 before returning to St. Peter's in 1930. He was also a music teacher from 1904 both privately and at the Melbourne Conservatorium and was organist, teacher and choirmaster at the Melbourne Church of England Grammar School from 1906 to 1926. He was also a music critic for The Age newspaper 1906-1926.

Biographical history
Steven Nisbet was taught the organ at St. John's Cathedral by Robert Boughen. Since then he has been a church organist at Wesley Methodist Church, Kangaroo Point, 1963-1977; St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, South Brisbane, 1978; organist and director of music at St Andrew’s Uniting Church, Brisbane, 1979 to 2020; and the Pilgrim People Brisbane. He was president of the Organ Society of Queensland for 26 years and has been on committees for both the Organ Society of Queensland and the Royal Society of Church Music (Qld.) George Sampson (1861-1949) was born in England where he was educated and began his musical career. He moved to Brisbane, Australia in 1898 as organist of St John's Pro-Cathedral remaining its organist until 1947. He was also Brisbane City Organist 1910-1947 and conducted the Queensland State and Municipal Orchestra (formally Sampson Orchestra) and Choir around 1924-1937. He was a music teacher teaching organ, pianoforte and singing as well as the Music Teachers' Association of Queensland's inaugural president and musical adviser to the University of Queensland. 'God has perfect pitch' was first broadcast on the A.B.C. as 'Encounter' on 28 August 1988. It is a feature which explores the music and liturgy of St. Paul's Cathedral, Melbourne, through the eyes and ears of three musicians. The musicians were:

This item contains a video recording of the memorial concert for Robert and Christina Boughen, held at St. Stephen's Cathedral, Brisbane, on 20 April 2024, following the passing of both Robert and Christina Boughen. The video was recorded by David Pawsey, founder of Queensland Live Streaming and audio was recorded by Jai Farrell.

The concert featured speeches about Robert and Christina Boughen from their family and by Margaret Throsby AM (MC). The music was performed by students and colleagues of Robert and Christina carefully selected by the family and former student Dr Graeme Morton, now director of music at St. John's Anglican Cathedral. The music was representative of the lives and loves of Christina and Robert Boughen. This included a performance by distinguished jazz pianist Michael Faragher, a former pupil of Robert Boughen's.
