Loose photographs taken or collected by Daniel Crane and his family relating to his service during and post the Second World War. A number of the photographs are family snaps of Crane in Brisbane wearing his service uniform, the majority are closely associated with his time in Japan as part of the BCOF (British Commonwealth Occupational Force).

Letter hand-written on rice paper by Daniel Crane, BCOF Japan, to his family in Brisbane. Crane writes quite an amusing account of his activities over a number of days in April 1947 enjoying the company of New Zealand and American troops and describing some of his duties.

This badge was issued to the nearest female relative of members of the Australian Imperial Force. The stars displayed on a bar suspended below the badge represent the number of relatives involved in the war effort. In this case there is one, for Daniel Crane. It has been retained by the family in a small wood box with a sliding lid.

The kitbag consists of a long, brown, canvas cylinder closed at the bottom. The top has an internal canvas flap and eight brass grommets to allow a drawstring type rope to secure the bag. It has been stencilled with the name and service number of 'Crane, D P QX47722'.

Daniel Crane was assigned to the 34th Brigade 'A' Field Battery Royal Australian Artillery (RAA) while serving in Japan with the BCOF (British Commonwealth Occupation Forces).

Embroidered silk kimono-style shirt. The cloth is embroidered with gold and red metalic thread and features traditional Japanese dragons.

Japanese silk flag with gold fringe, souvenired and signed by Daniel Crane during his service with the BCOF (British Commonwealth Occupation Force) in post-war Japan.

Autographed souvenir Japanese 'good luck' flag (hinomaru yosegaki) with the signatures of Allied soldiers and their service numbers. Made of white silk, the flag is printed with a crimson red hinomaru and was a traditional gift for Japanese servicemen deployed most notably during the Second World War.

The flag was typically a national flag signed by friends and family, with short messages wishing the soldier victory, safety and good luck.

Souvenir Japanese victory scarf, printed with 'In memory of landing in Japan' and a central map showing Yokohama, Japan and the west-coast of America; with floral motifs around three edges.
