Abstract
This collection contains photographs, ephemera, souvenirs, correspondence and realia principally relating to Daniel Patrick Crane's service with the BCOF (British Commonwealth Occupation Forces) in post-war Japan.
Scope and content

A collection of photographs, ephemera, and realia relating to Daniel Patrick Crane. Crane, a Brisbane man, enlisted in the Citizens Defense Forces before being transferred to the A.I.F. where he subsequently served in New Guinea during the Second World War, and later as a member of the British Commonwealth Occupation Forces of Post-War Japan. Features of this collection include his paybooks, a demobilisation instruction booklet, Japanese occupation currency, silk flags commemorating the American landing in Japan, and a photograph album featuring scenes and personal photographs of Crane's unit in Japan.

Administrative / Biographical history

BCOF headquarters were located at Kure, and the army encamped at Hiro. Their area of responsibility was the western prefectures of Shimani, Yamaguchi, Tottori, Okayama, Hiroshima, and Shikoku Island.
