Administrative / Biographical history

A number of relatives were regular correspondents, especially with Mary Shelley and her three unmarried daughters. Mr Harry Bell, brother of Mary, and his daughter Flora were 2 prolific correspondents. Robert Bell, another brother of Mary, and his wife Annie were also regular correspondents - they and their 3 daughters, May, Thelma and Millie, lived at Ardath in Western Australia, and there are also some letters from Thelma in the collection. "Maggie" and "Jean" (or "Aunt Jeannie") are 2 of Mary's sisters - Jean is Jean Roscoe, and her son Bob (Sir Robert Roscoe) and daughter Ness (later Ness Foreman) were also regular correspondents.
