Scope and content

Records kept and maintained by the 2nd Australian Light Horse Regiment during the First World War, serving on the Gallipoli Peninsula and the Middle East. The collection includes military records specific to the regiment such as nominal rolls, personnel records and casualty lists. It also includes the personal diaries and journals of the regiment's chaplain Reverend George Green who vividly describes the horrors of the Gallipoli campaign. The collection gives details of activities at Gallipoli and the Middle East and includes photographs, maps and publications.

Administrative / Biographical history

Lieutenant Colonel Robert Stodart (1879-1956), was born in Brisbane to James Stodart and Elizabeth Gair. Educated at Brisbane Grammar School, he enlisted in the Queensland Mounted Infantry and served in the South African War. During the First World War Stodart was the Commanding Officer of the 2nd Light Horse Regiment, 1914-1915, and although wounded in June 1915, he remained on duty until evacuated in September 1915.
